Streaming Consciousness, Imagining iPad Notes

I'm imagining using an iPad. I'm imagining writing these words into an online notebook. I'm imaging what it will feel like to write these notes in public space, rather than the private space of the notebook. Our lives have become far too privatised. I call my interactive notebook 'Streaming Consciousness, iPad notes from the everyday'. These are just my words attached to thoughts; without narrative, story, plot or argument in an open space, for other people to see, or scan, or read, and maybe react to. I'm hoping that a way of learning and being will evolve from these fragments of dissipated thoughts.

First problem is the iPad has been set up as a 'consuming media machine', what I want is an 'interactive media machine'. Consuming media is the old model of broadcast media in communication society. Interactive media is about becoming involved in a conversational society. The conversational media society is about us all becoming involved in making and doing, rather than the old society which has become about some people doing and making and a lot of people just consuming.

I'm imagining typing this into the iPad. I imagine fast, reliable broadband being ubiquitous, it's always on, always there and it's a free part of the infrastructure of our society. At the moment this home broadband tethers me to this particular space, mobile broadband is still very slow and unreliable. We need to learn to get out of our privatised spaces and become more public in our everyday lives. I decide to have a break, instead of pressing 'save' I press 'publish' (or in this case 'Post' to Posterous).
